The above diagram is printed in the novel and shows the cosmology of Dante's Equation. Chesed, Binah, Gevorah, Chochmah, Hod and Netzach are sephirot of Kabbalah, the elemental traits from which everything is made. The four quadrants represent the different levels of Heaven (top half of the diagram) and Hell (bottom half). The wheel has 3 pairs of opposite -- Chesed vs Gevorah (liberality and openness vs. restriction and judgment), Chochmah vs Binah (intuition and creativity vs logic and reasoning), Hod/Netzarch (introvert vs extrovert). The various combination of these traits are shown on the wheel and what results from the combinations (for example, the lower right quadrant represents Binah (logic) mixed with Gevorah (judgmentalism).)
